Bookish Things [7]

...in which I talk about what I'm reading, what I've just read, what I can't wait to read. Basically, all things book!

To start, I bought a handful of books this week. They are:
Deception by Lee Nichols
Blue Bloods: Keys to the Repository by Melissa de la Cruz
Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella
Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood
My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares

When I left you last, I was reading Perchance to Dream by Lisa Mantchev. I still am. I know, it's taking me a while, but I swear it's only because I got distracted by Eclipse. So I have yet to get any further, as I also started reading Alyson Noel's Dark Flame. It was calling to me, what can I say?

***Just as a forewarning, if you haven't read it yet and plan to, this may contain some spoilers. So don't say I didn't warn you!***

Now, this latest installment in the Immortal's series had some ups and downs for me. First, the downs. I don't think I have ever disliked a character as much as I do Haven. I feel like she's an attention grabber, she doesn't respect her friends the way she should, and she is very narrow-minded, only seeing what she chooses. All of this becomes even more present in Dark Flame, and I can't help but wonder if she will ever change. If I knew someone like her, I definitely would not be her friend. It would be a very unhealthy relationship to have. On the plus side of things, though, Ever grew A LOT during this book. She started off as her usual self, thinking she has to do everything on her own. But she finally comes to the realization she can't fix things on her own, and she finally fesses up to Damen about everything. Ever is very headstrong, but she finally admits defeat, and realizes that focussing on the negatives isn't doing her any good. I'm SO GLAD the lightbulb went off for her, as I didn't know how much more I could take of her foolishness. With all that said, I will absolutely be buying the next book, Night Star, when it comes out in the fall.
Overall rating: 3.5/5

I also managed to squeeze in Keys to the Repository by Melissa de la Cruz. It's a little book that gives an overview of what the Blue Bloods series is all about. I love when author's put out something that has everything you need to know about a series. It helps sort through information, especially when there's a lot of it, and it keeps the reader on track as to what is happening. Plus it doesn't hurt that she included the first two chapters of the next book in the series, Misguided Angel. It keeps you excited about the series, and keeps it in the forefront of your mind in between book releases.
Overall rating: 4/5

I'm really excited about reading Charlie St. Cloud, and My Name is Memory. They both have interesting plot lines that I can't wait to dive into. I'll hopefully have the former read before the movie is released, and that may mean putting Perchance to Dream on hold...again.
